Get a few facts about high blood pressure, which is also known as hypertension, and cholesterol.

Just one year ago, heart attacks used to be the number one killer across the globe. Recently however, colon cancer has snuck up to be almost neck and neck with heart attacks.

The scariest fact is, more than sixty percent of the people who die from heart attacks each year are the people who have no history of heart failures or any form of heart disease. Read on to learn more about the three facts you need to know.

Blood Pressure is Increasing among Populations

The National Institute of Health suggests high blood pressure should be a main concern in your life. High blood pressure affects over seventy million Americans alone each year! This means every 2 in 5 people suffer with some form of high blood pressure. This point of statistics is directly related to the fact that over 64% of Americans are obese and overweight.

Then there is the fact that you may be overweight or considered obese and do not even realize or know your blood pressure is too high. This is what is going to kill you; the ignorance of your overall health. Sudden cardiac arrest is a prime killer in those who do not show a history of heart disease.

Plaque is basically cholesterol that has oxidized within your arteries. This is the extra lining of the artery wall that starts blocking blood flow through your heart and to your brain. When the artery walls become so narrow, it is at this point you will suffer a heart attack.

How does One Prevent a Heart Attack?

Load up on antioxidants. This is the key to help your body fight heart diseases and other viruses. Drinking two four ounce cups of pomegranate juice during the day will also help you keep your vitamin C level high.

This drink is a good alternative if you cannot drink orange juice. Start eating low fat foods; avoid extremely oily foods like deep fried chicken or food made with lard - such as biscuits. Reduce your salt intake to half of your normal. Eat lean white meats - turkey and chicken. Leave beef, bull and dark meats alone. Cut out excess fat.

If you do not exercise, the time to change your life style is now. You should be walking at least 30 minutes a day five days a week. While walking, make absolutely sure you alternate your days to add a little bit of a hill into your walking regime.

This allows a short burst of extra charged energy to reach your heart. It allows for the blood to be pumped quicker throughout your system, and you get more oxygen!
